Arthritic knees? Join our programme

We will be running a program called ESCAPE. This is a program designed for people with artritic (OA) knees. It is all about self management and coping with arthritic pain using exercise. It helps people understand their condition, teaches them simple things they can do to help themselves and takes them through a progressive exercise programme.                                    Robust evaluation shows that this program-reduces pain

  • improves physical function
  • improves the psychosocial consequences of pain, people's sense of being in control of their problem, self confidence and self esteem
  • reduces healthcare cost and the need for joint replacements                                                                                                                                                                                  The program will be delivered at Uplands Sport Centre by a physio to small groups in 12 classes, twice a week for 6 weeks.                                                                                                                                                                        There are 2 components to the program:

1) an education component where people learn about the problem, what might be causing it, why they experience pain, simple ways to cope and self-manage their problems.

2) an exercise regimen where people undertake a progressive exercise programme tailored to each individual's needs and abilities.

If you are interested in joining the programme please call reception to register your interest.
